Fines and Overdue library materials:
When you check out library materials, they will generally be due
in three to four weeks. (The exceptions are our CDs, videos, and audio cassettes, which
are on a one-week cycle.) Library materials, of whatever kind, will always be due on
a Tuesday. If you turn your materials in on the Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday of
the week they are due, you will not owe a fine. This is your "grace period."
However, if you return the materials on Saturday or later, the
materials will be considered overdue and you will be charged for every day the book is out
past the due date, including the "grace period." Thus, on Sunday, you will owe
.25 on each item you have overdue. (Five cents per day for Wednesday, Thursday, Friday,
Saturday, and Sunday.) Fines accumulate on a five cent per item per day basis until you return the
overdue item. At that point, if you do not pay the fine, it will stay on your record and
be considered "outstanding." However, there is a limit of $5.00 per item.
Once you have overdue library materials and/or outstanding fines, you cannot check out other materials until the materials are returned and the fines paid.
Lost
library materials:
It happens to all of us. You're sure you know where you left that
library book, but when you try to find it you realize it's not there. What to do?
FIRST, before too much time elapses, contact me, your Librarian. I can
give you ideas on finding the book, and I even might be able to renew it while you are
searching, thus keeping any fines you may have incurred from becoming so high.
If you are absolutely unable to find the book, you will be responsible
for paying for it. The Library will charge you the current retail price of the materials,
plus a $2.00 processing fee. We will not charge you for any overdue fines you may
have incurred, unless the book is later found and a refund requested. At that point, we will
refund your money less any overdue fines.
